Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

On Friday we went to see Mukeng bamboo forest. We walked around for about an hour – mostly up steps! There was lots of bamboo (noooo!) and it was the bamboo forest where scenes from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon were filmed.

After our trek, we went to a tea plantation/factory/shop, where we were taught how to pick our own tea! Mum says it is like picking the “naughties” out from tomato plants.

It was hard work in the sunshine, so we then tried green, red & flower teas.

Then we went to Tunxi – first to see the only remaining factory in China that makes ink sticks (for calligraphy) by hand. Here is one of the factory workers kneading the sticky (soot, oil & Chinese herbs) mixture:

And here are the ink sticks pressed and ready for drying (which takes about 6 months):

For dinner we had some green (kalimeris – a flower & wormwood) dumpling snacks   ……..

…….. and we walked around the old street ……… before going to see a cultural/acrobatic show.

But on the way to Tuxi, we stopped to see this old bridge:

You don’t see that in Shanghai!

We just made it from the show to catch our plane & got back to Shanghai by midnight – a very busy day!

A fascinating end to your trip. I guess the first thing you did when you got back to Shanghai home was make a cup of tea.
