Brass Monkeys

Firstly, thanks very much for all the fantastic Shakespeare quotes but it’s also not too late to send me some more of your favourites!

I should also answer the quiz from last week’s blog – the ‘present’ was pounded sticky rice, Nian Gao, which is apparently delicious when steamed or chopped up in soup and a “must-have” during Chinese New Year.

This week at school I received my 100 Merits certificate:

It was also parent’s evening on Thursday, which I thought went quite well (probably should ask Mum and Dad though). We went out for dinner on Friday night to Francks to celebrate and so I could practise my French – as we have been learning words for food this week. I had cotelettes d’agneau and creme brûlée. Yum!

This week it is really freezing cold (Dad keeps saying “its brass monkeys”) and polluted outside, so we have been exercising inside (using Mum’s bike) – my fastest speed is 22.9 miles per hour so far.

On Friday we could pay ¥20 to go to school in our own clothes to raise money for Tanzania (goats, schools etc), so I did. Mum made me a badge with the Tanzania flag, which is like this:

On Saturday I learnt some new card tricks before we went to see if we could find any graffiti around Dong Tai Lu which is being demolished. We were looking for these –

but we didn’t find them. Then we went for a brisk walk down the bund and found a statue for “statuing”

Saturday night at the movies was Mockingjay Part One – We give it the score 2.5/5. Maybe our score would have been higher if we had waited to buy a better quality version!

Also I have been outraged by the ban on the import of proper English Cadbury’s chocolate to America, and I am very worried about our British friends there, so here’s the petition link:

Please, please, please sign it if you love Cadbury! And also forward it to everyone you know who:

Lives in America
Loves Chocolate
Loves Cadbury
Loves Purple

That’s all for this week,
From, Thomas

Well done on your latest certificate. You must have quite a collection by now.
What interesting graffiti – perhaps you should create one of your own.
Aren’t Americans silly – if its chocolate of course they need it.

  2. Amazing graffiti photos.
