Christmas Holiday 2014 Day 12

December 31
Wednesday Dong Van – Yen Minh
After I had a baguette & egg sandwich for breakfast & Mum & Dad had chicken noodle soup & then coffee/tea in the road with sesame rice balls …… we set off again to see Hmong, Zao & Lo Lo people. We drove over the Ma Pi Leng Pass – lots of limestone rocks and farming at amazing heights & on very steep slopes.

We saw a lot of people building a breeze-block house, and they had to carry them up a very steep hill!

We went on a trek through the valley of Dong Van – as there had been a lot of rock exploded to build a new road, some of the walking was a bit tricky. We visited the old French quarter & Dad kissed a buffalo, so he has now achieved a life’s dream!
We visited the former palace of the Vuong family who ruled over the region & controlled opium production and trading until 1945.

Then downhill through the Phi Cao pass to the Yen Minh valley.
We are now staying in a hotel that has a slightly worrying sign outside the reception/garage.

Yum my favourite – chicken noodle soup (Batchelors) of course.
Those poor women, they need a stout pair of walking boots.
