Christmas Holiday 2014 Day 11

December 30
Tuesday (Ba Be – Meo Vac)
We were woken up by the cockerels VERY early! I decided I would like chicken pie & chicken soup for breakfast, to end the noisy cockerel for the next guests but instead I was given crepes!

We drove to Tinh Tuc and enjoyed the scenery of Colia Pass. We drove along the Gam River to Ly Bon up steep mountains.

In the Niem Son valley we met the Red Xao people – the married ladies pluck their eyebrows & shave the front of their heads. We stopped off to visit a school. Instead of bells, the have gongs to signal the start and end of the school day.

We also met Shancsi ladies who wore hemp dyed black with embroidered & silver decorations – we took photos for them and looked around their wooden house – too cold for rice here, so they eat a lot of corn. Their house was not as old as Bisham!

We stayed in Meo Vac & had dinner with more rice wine. Dad tried cow stomach and stayed up to chat with our guide & driver and tried even more rice wine.

From, Thomas

Not 5 star accommodation you are used to, but good views.
I guess Bromley isn’t making much sense today.

All very interesting. Is rice wine very alcoholic – how did your Dad feel next day?
