Christmas Holiday 2014 Day 10

December 29
Monday (Hanoi – Thai Nguyen – Ba Be)
We left Hanoi for the North of Vietnam. After several hours drive we really reached countryside. We tried Nhan tran tea at a “five star” restaurant! (not sure if it was though)We visited – by boat – a self sufficient village where the Tay (from Thailand) people live and saw caves, bats, water buffaloes, baby water buffaloes, vietanmese pot bellied pigs, chickens, chicks, beetles (dead), goats and loads of bamboo. The village children go to school by boat – which is about one hour ride away, across Ba Be lake.

We stayed at a “home stay” in apac Ngoi overlooking Ba Be lake. We had dinner cooked by the family we were staying with & tried their rice wine, & then as there was not much else to do in the dark, we watched a film on Dad’s phone (but the first 1 minute 25 seconds on Mum’s iPad) snuggled under all the duvets we could find (it was a bit chilly at night). Halfway through we could hear the people next door snoring very loudly through the very “soundproof” wall.

Do you think that the other people heard you snoring too!
It’s strange that the children go to school by boat. Fascinating to learn how people live in different parts of the world.
